Another dialogue about shopping

Hello, guys!

Here I am again. Vasco, I read your comment and this dialogue is specially for you.

IN THE SPORTS DEPARTMENT

Yesterday Linda and Cristina decided to go shopping. They went to Selfridge's, one of the biggest department stores in London. First, they went to the women's wear department where Cristina bought a very fashionable skirt. Then, they went to the sports department.
selfridges
Shop-assistant: Good afternoon. Can I help you?
Linda: Yes, please. I'd like to buy a tennis racket.
Shop-assistant: Is it for you?
Linda: No, it's for my brother. He's 25 next week.
Shop-assistant: Oh, it's a birthday present!
Linda: Yes. Can I see that one on the counter?
Shop-assistant: Which one? The metal or the wooden one?
Linda: The metal one. It's lighter, isn't it?
Shop-assistant: Yes, but it is a bit too fragile. The wooden rackets are stronger.
Linda: You may be right. Hou much is this one?
Shop-assistant: Let me check on the label. It's not expensive, £30. A real bargain.
Linda: What's your opinion Cristina? Do you like it?
Cristina: Well, I think it's a nice present.
Linda: OK. I'll take it.
Shop-assistant: Thank you. Pay at the cash-desk, please.

Good-bye, Carnival holidays

Hello Students!

Here I am again, after some relaxing days. On those days I tried (and succeded) to forget school, in spite of thinking of you everyday. I had wonderful days doing what I like best in my free time: orientering. There was an international meeting in Mora and Pavia and I went there from Saturday to Tuesday. It was amazing! The landscape of those regions changed suddenly with  hundreds of people dressed in colourful clothes, the uniforms of the several clubs. There I met people from Switzerland, Sweden, France, Spain, Germany and so many others countries. Unfortunatly I couldn't talk to them, because they were there to compete, not to make friends. Do you believe that in this sport we can find people aged from six to seventy years old? Yes, it's true. I had the same itinerary as the women in their sixties and tey won me.  Shame on me! But I have an excuse: I'm not a competitor, I'm just a person who likes doing sport, meanwhile I observe the Mother Nature! and It was fantastic; there were so many flowers, the birds were singing, the sun was warm... PERFECTS DAYS.

Back to reality, it's time to work. So I propose you to write a text about your own Carnival holidays, because I'm a very curious teacher. Here you are some topics: Did you stay at home or did you go out? What did you do? Did you disguise yourself?  If so, what was your phantasy like? If you went out, who did you go with? Where did you go to? How did you travel? What did you see? Did you go shopping? If so, what did you buy? Did you watch a parade? How did you like your holidays?

You can send me your text by mail or you can give it to me personaly , on 2nd of March.

See  you tomorrow or on Friday. Who is a "Sporting" fan? Good luck for the match against "Bayern Munich" (Bayern de Munique). You are going to need it.

European Portfolio of Languages

Hello, my dear Inês Correia!

I loved the three "Power Point" works you gave me. You touched my heart! They are absolutely great!

I noticed that there are a few mistakes, but don't worry, it's normal. You shouldn´t correct them. Don't forget that one of the objectives of the Portfolio is to check the development of the owner's skills (capacidades).

Please notice this:
In English we use the verb to be to speak about the age, but in Portuguese we use the verb to have.

Ex: When I was five years old...

Work "That's me" - Correction

I'm from Évora, in Portugal.
At home I always have tea... / always is a frequency adverb, so it goes after the subject.
When I go with my parents to a Chinese restaurant. / We use to with the verb "to go".
My favourite animal is the dog.
My favourite sport

Work "Halloween" - Correction

We visited our neighbours.
They opened the door.

See you tomorrow

Origin and Nationalities

Hello agai, students of  5th A!

I'm trying to explain you what you should say when you speakk about Origin:

Question:
Where are you from? or Where do you come from?
Answers: I am from Portugal. / we are from Portugal. or I come from Portugal / We come from Portugal.

Questions: Where's she / he / it from? or Where does he / she / it come from?
Annswers: She / He / It is from Canada. or She / He / It is from Canada.

Question: Where are they from? or Where do they come from?
Answer: They're from the United States of America. or They come from the United States of America.

Nationalities:

Questions:
What nationality are you? or What's your nationality?
Answer: I'm Portuguese. / We're Portuguese.

Questions: What nationality is she / he / it? or What's her / his / its nationality?
Answer: She / He / It is Canadian.

Questions: What nationality are they? or What's their nationality?
Answer: They're American.

Tomorrow and the day after tomorrow

My first  message is for you, students of  6th E.
Tomorrow you are continuing the 5th lesson plan (published on 4th February).

My second message is for you, students of 6th C.
You have a great lesson about shopping in this site - choose "experimentar aula" (click here). Enjoy it, because it might dissapear.

Here you are, another dialogue to help you. It is in this site:

Salesperson: Hi. Can I help you find anything?

Customer: Yes. I am looking for an outfit for a Christmas party.

S: Is it formal or informal?

C: It is pretty informal, I think.

S: Are you looking at pants or a dress?

C: I think a dress or a skirt. Preferably something in red.

S: We have some nice red dresses over in this area. They look very festive for the Christmas season.

S: What size are you looking for?

C: I think about a size 10.

S: Okay, here are a couple. Would you like to try them on?
C: Yes, please.

S: Sure, our fitting rooms are back here. (Customer tries on dress.)

S: How did you make out?

C: Good. The first one didn't quite fit right but I really like the second one.

S: Great! Just to let you know, it's on sale so there are no refunds or exchanges.

C: That's fine. I know it will look great at the party.

S: Thank you and come again.

And / But / Or

Good afternoon to all of you, pupils!

Today I dedicate this post to Francisco (5th A).

Dear Francisco, do you remember (Lembras-te) the difficulties you had (que tiveste) during the correction of the test?

Look at this sentence: "I can play the guitar and sing  but I can't surf or skate."

Now in Portuguese: and, but e or são conectores (connectors), porque servem para ligar partes de uma frase.

Usamos and (em português significa e) em frases afirmativas.

Usamos but (em português significa mas), quando queremos dizer o contrário do que dissemos na frase anterior.

Usamos or (em português significa nem / ou) em frases negativas, para ligar as partes dessas frases.

Do you understand now?

Hugs and kisses
